How to Win the Stretch Marks Battle
Saturday, June 26th, 2010Skin that is full of blemishes and scars are ugly to look at. Unfortunately, a lot of these scars are caused by accidents so there is little you can do to avoid these scars. You just have to be careful and avoid doing activities that will expose you to getting into such accidents. Stretch marks on the other hand, are usually formed as you grow up and you won’t be able to do much to stop these. The only preventable stretch marks are from pregnancy, but you still cannot be 100% sure in preventing these from forming.
During times when the body grows quickly, the skin also grows with it. Unfortunately, skin grows slower than the body and this causes the skin to stretch beyond its capacity. When this happens, the dermal layer of the skin can break, and this forms bar-like lines on the skin which are more popularly known as stretch marks.
Periods in our life when the body grows quickly are adolescence and pregnancy. During adolescence, the body grows in height and size, and this causes skin to be stretched. Pregnancy on the other hand, will cause specific parts of the body to grow, and the skin in these areas will tend to stretch and break easily. Hormonal changes in the body in both of these situations can also contribute to the formation of marks.
During older times, scars were considered permanent and there was no way for women to get id of them. They could only use makeup or clothes to cover these blemishes. But with the advances in technology in today’s time, there have been many ways developed that can help remove these unsightly blemishes.
The more expensive ways of scar removal is by laser procedures or dermabrasion. These methods involve physically removing the scar by burning and sanding respectively. The laser procedure is considered to be the best and safest way to get rid of scars, but it is also the most expensive. Dermabrasion on the other hand, will remove the outermost layer of your skin, taking away the scar with it. This will leave your skin raw for some time while it takes time for skin cells to regenerate.
Using scar removal creams can also work in removing those unsightly blemishes. These creams work by stimulating cell regeneration so that new cells can push out the older cells that occupy the scar. Creams also have exfoliating properties which help get rid of these old scars.
Unfortunately, most of these creams may contain harmful chemicals especially if you are pregnant. This is why a safer alternative to creams during pregnancy is the use of cocoa butter. Cocoa butter moisturizes the skin and provides the nutrients that it needs to help it cope up with the increasing size of your body. By always applying cocoa butter, it reduces the chances that you will develop stretch marks after pregnancy.
There are many techniques and procedures that you can do to get rid of stretch marks. It depends on your personal preference as to what you feel is the most effective in getting rid of scars. You won’t have to worry anymore about these blemishes on your skin. You can have that flawless skin that you have always wanted.
